Crime Victim Immigration Visa

Crime Victims

In June of 2018, the Washington State Legislature passed the Safety and Access for Immigrant Victims Act. The goal of this bill is to promote consistent and equal treatment and offer protections to immigrant victims statewide, ensuring that all victims of crime are able to access the protections available to them under the law.

The U nonimmigrant status (or U visa) offers immigration protection for victims of qualifying crimes who are helpful in the detection, investigation, or prosecution of certain types of criminal activity. The T nonimmigrant status (or T visa) offers immigration protection to victims of severe forms of human trafficking (labor and sex) who assist in the investigation or prosecution of human trafficking.
