Mission Statement
The Finance Department provides quality financial services to the public and all City of Chehalis departments effectively and efficiently.

Services Provided:

Budgeting, Accounting and Financial Reporting
The Finance Department prepares and monitors the City of Chehalis' Annual Budget. Budget to actual financial reports are prepared for key city funds and presented to the City Council on a monthly basis. The Finance Manager is responsible for the preparation of the annual financial statements and coordinates the annual audits with the State Auditor's Office.

In addition, the Finance Department processes payroll and accounts payable, and tracks miscellaneous accounts receivable for all departments. The department assists other departments in financial grant reporting.

Internal Controls/Financial Policies and Procedures
On a regular basis, the Finance Department evaluates its controls over the city's assets and financial information, as well as compliance with federal, state and local laws. The Finance Department generates or updates financial policies and procedures in an effort to formalize and document controls.

Treasury/Debt Management
The Finance Department manages the city's cash and investment portfolio. All investments are made in accordance with Washington State law and the city's own investment policies.

The Finance Department also manages the city's debt, ensuring timely debt servicing and adequate debt capacity.
