Due to the announced retirement of our Finance Director, the City of Chehalis is recruiting for a Finance Director. 

This is an appointed “at will” position under the direct supervision of the City Manager and exercises supervisory responsibilities over all Finance Department personnel, including accounting, investments, and clerical support personnel.  The Director is the highest departmental authority on all matters of policy operations and personnel actions.

The Finance Director is an FLSA Exempt, at-will position with an updated 2023 salary range of $102,960 to $125,184.  Plus excellent benefits.  Please see the benefit summary attached below.  

There is a 4.5% increase to the salary budgeted for 2024, and a 3.5 to 5% increase authorized for 2025 dependent upon the CPI. 

The City will also offer a bonus of 5% for a successful candidate with a current CPA Certification.  

The Finance Director provides leadership and direction in the development of long and short range division plans, goals, and objectives; gathers and prepares data for studies, reports, and recommendations; coordinates division activities with other city departments, federal, state, county, and local agencies and groups that interact with the Finance Division in the areas of receiving and accounting for monies, investing cash, accounts payable, business licensing, employee payroll, revenue and expense analysis and forecasting, debt management, rate analysis, budget preparation and administration, and financial audits.

Desired Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited high school and completion of an undergraduate college degree in business or public administration, finance, accounting, or a related field;
  • Eight years of experience in public financial management, financial reporting, and/or budgeting, including at least four years as a supervisor or above; and
  • Evidence of ongoing professional training (classes, seminars, conferences, etc.)
  • CPA Certification also desirable.
