The structure was built by businessman William Brunswig. The upper floors were designed to house the Grand Opera House and a public auditorium until it was converted into the Brunswig Hotel. The lower floor was used for Mr. Brunswig’s retail business, The Racket Store. This is the oldest building on Chehalis Avenue, constructed three years after the catastrophic fires of 1892.
