Discover! Children's Museum Pilot Project Extended - Again!

On September 23, the Discover! Children’s Museum announced a second extension of their pilot program.  A new and final closing date is now scheduled for December 31, 2013.

The Museum was originally planned as a six-month pilot, opening in February this year, to gather the community’s support for a permanent children’s museum.  However, paid attendance has been above expectations since the opening in February and as of today has reached 12,001.

Discover’s mission is to serve and nurture the learning needs of our community’s children and families, with the goal of supporting a strong partnership with parents and schools and to encourage our community’s children to learn by having fun!  The Museum is designed to provide a facility with interactive exhibits to spark the imaginations of young and old alike and to encourage play and exploration.  When Discover! realized the success of meeting these goals, the July end date was extended for three additional months to October 31.

The decision to extend to October 31 was met with overwhelming support.  During that time, Discover! opened its doors to numerous parent/child groups and has partnered with many family-friendly events in our area.  Now, thanks to the continued encouragement of parents and our successful involvement in the community, Discover! has once again extended the date for closing our doors.  Look for us to remain open and active until December 31.   During the extension, we will continue to learn all we can to determine the success of a future, permanent facility.

Discover! Children’s Museum operates under the Friends of the Chehalis Community Renaissance, a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation.  The pilot project is wholly supported by paid attendance and donations from individuals and private foundations, but would not be a reality without wonderful volunteer involvement during the construction and operational phases.

Discover! is located at 1461 NW Louisiana Avenue in the Twin City Town Center in Chehalis, and is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:00pm.
