This position will join our other Community Services Officer (CSO) in performing limited public safety work with a limited law enforcement commission to enforce city municipal codes, parking regulations, conduct prisoner transports, animal control duties, traffic control, perform data entry, assist with building code violations, and other public safety-related work. We will train the person who has the interest and abilities to work in the following conditions and is able to pass the background investigation and polygraph examination:
- Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather and working conditions.
- Transportation of in-custody offenders to appropriate locations.
- Provide Chehalis Municipal Court security on court days.
- Exchanging information with criminal justice systems or private agencies as needed.
- Prepare timely, accurate and complete reports and correspondence related to enforcement duties.
- Secure evidence, prepare reports, and appear as needed for court proceedings.
- Testifies in person or prepares affidavits for court as required.
- Respond to and/or participate in appeals to citations issued.
- Use of routine police equipment, including less than lethal use of force devices.
- Deliver material and documents to other departments or locations.
- Maintain care of impounded animals and city animal shelter.
- Conduct investigations of complaint filings to ensure that individuals are in compliance with all nuisance abatement ordinances, policies, and regulations of the City.
- Patrol business and residential areas on foot and in city vehicles in all weather conditions for the enforcement of parking regulations in accordance with City ordinances and State statutes.
- Serves civil process subpoenas.
- Conducts traffic control for traffic collisions or other types of incidents as needed.
Desired Minimum Qualification:
Graduation from an accredited high school or a GED equivalent.
Read and write English.
Must be 18 years of age.
Must pass an extensive background investigation, to include a polygraph examination.
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with a good driving record without record of suspension or revocation in any state. Out-of-state applicants must possess valid license for state of residence and must obtain valid Washington State Driver’s License within 30 days of appointment.
Note: Due to Washington State Patrol requirements for user approval of the “A Central Computerized Enforcement Service System (ACCESS), applicants with a history of any level of felony conviction at any time are ineligible and will not be considered for this position. At the discretion of the employer, certain misdemeanor convictions may also cause an applicant to be considered ineligible for this position.
Special Requirements:
Acquire Level II ACCESS certification within three months of appointment.
Must be able to qualify with oleoresin capsicum and electronic control devices.
Must be able to successfully complete Washington State Criminal Justice Animal Control Officer Academy, Course #2390 or equivalent within twelve (12) months of hire date.

The monthly salary for the CSO position is $4,573 - $5,558. The successful candidate will be placed at the pay step that reflects their experience.
