Community Development

Mission Statement
The community development department provides programs and activities which improve the quality of life and economic vitality of the community.

Services Provided
The department is responsible for development of plans and programs for the social, historic and economic welfare of our community, including the city’s comprehensive plan, and the development regulations that implement those plans. The department also provides staff support for development and review of specialized plans, such as neighborhood and sub-area plans. Permit applications are reviewed and approved, and inspections are made of all work to ensure safety and compliance with all applicable city and state regulations. The department administers and enforces adopted ordinances, codes and policies that reflect the environment in which our citizens wish to live. The department also assists  in implementing projects and programs that enhance the economic vitality of the city.

Other services provided by the Community Development Department include: Building and Planning, and Parks and Recreation.

 Historic Preservation Commission
The purpose of the Historic Preservation Commission is to provide for the identification, enhancement, perpertuation, and use of the historic resources within the city.  The Commission consists of seven members, appointed by the city council.  Appointments shall be made for a three-year term.  Members shall be residents of the city except as provided in CMC 2.66.050.

     Meeting Dates: First Monday of each month at 7:00 PM at the Community Development Department, 1321 S. Market Blvd. 


Planning Commission
The purpose of the Planning Commission is to review all plats or plans of subdivisions of land within the city or proposed additions, as well as dedications of streets and alleys.  The Commission also reviews the comprehensive plan for the city and prepares amendments deemed necessary and in the best interest of the citizens of the city, or as directed by the council.  The Commission consists of seven members, designated and appointed by the mayor, subject to the confirmation by the city council.  Appointment shall be made for a four-year term.

     Members: Adam Holgate, Scott Blinks, Jeff Mecca, Harry Green, Walter Cuestas, and Arnold Haberstroch
     Meeting Dates:  Second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM at the City Hall (council chamber), 350 N Market Blvd.
