Permit Technician

Here’s a great opportunity to assist individuals and businesses with their construction and development goals while helping to maintain the City’s building and zoning standards.  The City of Chehalis is looking for an individual to fill the position of Permit Technician in the Community Development Department. 

The Permit Technician is the hub of the application and permitting process and is responsible for coordinating tracking and processing permit applications while ensuring that policies and procedures are followed.  This involves frequent interaction with customers as well as working with other city departments to ensure that review efforts are coordinated.  The work can be very challenging as there are frequent interruptions, customers with tight deadlines and always the need to make sure information is accurate and up to date.

Chehalis has a lot to offer and building and development is a big part of what’s going on.  We have great commercial development located right on I-5, as well as a mix of retail, light industrial, manufacturing and residential, including three districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places.   

This is a regular, full-time position with a current wage range of $3,813 to $4,634 per month, depending upon qualifications.  Benefits include membership in the Washington State PERS retirement system, employee and family medical/dental/vision insurance and generous vacation and sick leave accrual.  The position is represented by Teamsters Local #252.

Required qualifications for this position include:

Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent supplemented with college and/or technical school level course work in permit functions, business, public administration, planning, construction management or closely related field.

Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in office and administrative work.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in land use permitting and zoning code application and in the administration and issuance of a variety of building and construction permits involving application of building and planning codes and contact with the general public.

Must have a valid Washington State Drivers License with good driving record.
