The City of Chehalis is hiring a Community Development Director.

This an at-will, director level, management position responsible for overseeing all aspects of the city’s Community Development Department and performing as a member of the city’s management team.  As head of the department, the director performs essential and complex administrative duties overseeing all operational and administrative facets of the city’s planning and permitting.   

The current 2023 salary range for the Community Development Director position is $93,396 to $113,532 plus excellent benefits listed below.

Accountable for the efficient and effective performance of the department. 

Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates activities and assigned tasks in order to achieve goals within available resources; selects, assigns, develops, motivates, and evaluates department staff; reviews results and directs changes as needed. 

Prepares and oversees department policies and standard operating procedures to ensure effective and efficient operations and records systems.

Participates in the development of ordinances, resolutions and regulations for consideration by the City Council.

Promotes and maintains staff morale and discipline; guides and assists subordinates in performance of duties; responds to complaints and addresses grievances.  Ensures compliance with department and city policies and procedures, collective bargaining agreements and legal requirements.

Represents the department in the community, including through the news media; communicates programs and policies to community groups and the general public; attends or delegates representatives to attend various local committees and task forces including the Historical Preservation Commission and the Chehalis Planning Commission.

Responds to and resolves complex and sensitive land use, development and permitting requests and complaints, meets with and discusses matters with other department directors and managers, public officials, business representatives, community groups and citizens.  Acts as lead in the city’s Development Review Committee.

Benefits Statement:

The City of Chehalis offers a complete benefits package to full-time employees including health care, dental, vision, EAP, retirement, life insurance, holidays, vacation, and sick leave.  We also have optional employee-contributed deferred compensation plans available. 

Part-time employees who work an average of 20 hours per week over the course of a year, receive benefits on a pro-rated basis.

Medical:
The City of Chehalis provides employees a choice between two health care plans; the Regence 250 Plan, and the Kaiser 200 Plan.  In all work groups other than Police and Fire, employees currently contribute 5 1/2% of the health care premium, while the City pays the other 94.5%.  This share is subject to bargaining agreements.  

Dental and Vision:
Dental and Vision Plans are offered through Teamsters Welfare/Delta Dental and are paid 100% by the City for the employee.

Life Insurance:
The City provides a $5,000.00 life insurance policy for employees, and a $1,000.00 life insurance policy for each of your dependents.  Additional life insurance is available at the employee's cost at very competitive rates through the Association of Washington Cities. 

Retirement:
Eligible City of Chehalis Employees participate in the Washington Department of Retirement Systems.  PERS 2 or 3 for a non-commissioned employees, and LEOFF 2 for Police Officers and Firefighters. 

Holidays:
In addition to ten observed holidays, employees also receive one floating holiday each year. 

Employee Assistance Program:
Employees and immediate family members are eligible to receive professional, confidential counseling and assistance through the EAP.   The EAP provides assistance for such things as stress, abuse, drugs and alcohol, grief, marriage concerns, depression as well as legal services for such things as wills, divorce, estate planning and disputes.
